Our first recording of my new song Dream of Sailor!
A few days ago, with all your help, we hurtled past our Kickstarter goal of $5500, and currently count 129 backers and rising. As a meager thank-you, we sat down in our dining room on Friday to make a video recording of a new song, “The Dream of Sailor.” We hope it’s to your liking. (We also apologize for the absence of Qarly and her ukulele in the video, as she was still hard at work setting up a fantastic presentation for Maker Faire.)
Our Kickstarter fundraiser will close today, at 3am EST! We would be grateful for any last-minute pledges, if there is anyone else you know who has yet to see the video. Thank you for giving us a better boost for this tour than we ever could have imagined.
Yours,

I’m going to make a little confession. When I back a project on kickstarter, I always look through the other backers and see who I recognize that is also helping a fun and wonderful thing happen, and I award those people imaginary happiness points and floaty hearts that circle their heads (jscottgrand, dov, jack solar…I’m hat-tipping and hearting you at this very moment!)…so, by the same token (and here’s the shallow part), maybe I very quietly sort of shake my head sadly at those of you who aren’t yet backing such a delightful and earnest project (especially those of you who are already on kickstarter!)— so I’m re-blogging this because I’m absolutely SURE you just hadn’t seen it yet and didn’t know about it!! Of course, it’s also entirely possible that your tumblr name and your kickstarter name and your real name are all different, and that I should shut my mouth. If that’s the case, please accept my floaty hearts!! Please?Corpus Callosum is over half-way to our Kickstarter goal, with 16 days left to go! Tell everyone! Especially your rich arts-loving friends who are looking for ways to get rid of their surplus of dollars!
(Thanks to everyone who has donated and spread the word so far. Every dollar and reblog helps.)

Corpus Callosum: Corpus Callosum National Tour Fundraiser

Corpus Callosum is going on our first national tour this Summer! Thanks to everyone who has helped us get this far. As you might imagine, touring a 7-person ensemble with all our crazy instruments and puppets is quite a challenge, which is why we haven’t yet been able to make it past the West Coast. This is how it’s going to work:
If our fundraiser succeeds, we’ll be able to journey across the entire United States this Summer! If we make it across the entire United States this Summer, we will be able to lay a more solid foundation for future tours, such that we would be able to do this every year on our own.
It would warm our hearts if you passed this video along, re-posted it to your blog or social network, or even just showed it to someone else in your office. The farther the news of our tour spreads, the more successful it will be, even if your own pockets are turned out at the moment.
Our tour dates will be posted to corpus.cc by June.
All our music is available to listen to online at corpuscallosum.bandcamp.com.
Thank you all so much, and we’ll be in touch!Posted on April 25, 2012 via Corpus Callosum with 18 notes

Be careful what you scribble on google maps in the middle of the night.
Nothing is set in stone or even written in light pencil on paper, so I’m just going to present this map with this pink line on it with no further comments.

Corpus Callosum scraping off the rust after 2 months without a rehearsal. I like rehearsing at home; I hate having too much gypsum dust in my throat to sing without coughing.
Next show is Feb 12th at Hotel Utah!
Our first practice together in our new home!
(Well, not technically; we’ve been practicing here for years. But you know what I mean.)

See previous post, but I’d also add:
The Guy Faux masks always bothered me. First, I want to know who I am with. I understand, hypothetically, the power in anonymity and conformity, being a legion… but it isn’t something I feel apart of. We are a movement of leaders. We are individuals, unique, beautiful, strong. That’s not visible behind the masks. Also, doesn’t wearing the mask make you LESS anonymous in some ways? If someone really wanted to know who you all were, the masks are a great way to identify you. At some point, you’ll take them off, or go home, or someplace. You risk your identity more by wearing it than not, in most cases.
Second, that mask is locally produced by free-loving organic local farmers who recycle and practice green manufacturing. Many aren’t even made in this country.
However, the person (because corporations are people) who benefits from these sales IS in the united states. Guess what? They’re not exactly a feel-good bunch of folks either. The Guy Fawkes mask became a top seller on Amazon, which ads another cultural monolith to the equation, not to mention wasteful packaging. Time Warner owns the rights to the mask image, so each sale benefits them as well.
I point this out and offer you this picture because, as I said, I DO see the visual power of a masked crowd. It’s undeniable that a sea of identical faces sends a strong message of unity. I think here, as in all things, form is function and the unfortunate fact is these masks are cheaply made, without love, and benefit a faceless (masked? heh) corporation.
Another point, of course, is that OWS is not synonymous with Anonymous, though they’ve shown mutual support.
What would a sea of handmade masks say? What do these handmade masks, all similar but unique, make you feel? Does the fact that they are “larger than life” make them more than masks, and how?
